Brighton is a fun place for Goths and rockers of all kinds. Anyone from the USA visiting England should give it a try for the sea views, the seafront cafe/bars and all the hundreds of clothes and jewellery shops.

If you like tattoos and body Jewellery, the North Laine and Lanes have plenty of outlets. If you like black lace dresses and arm gloves, Brighton has plenty of fetish and Goth clothing shops, such as Rag Freak and many others. There is also a bead shop in Sidney Street (North Laine).

The Fortune of War is a rather good pub on the sea front, which plays a mixture of rock, trance and dance music.

Unfortunately, the best place of all, the Hungry Years rock club, closed down years ago, to my great disappointment, and became a bingo hall.

There is a club called The Revenge Club... I think it is a rubber/leather fetish club. If any of you ever go there I would love to have that confirmed  .

It's great to have a few beers, then go on the carousel near the main pier... very surreal to see the sea come round, then the promenade, then the sea again... makes you feel weird but happy  .

On the down side, as well as the Hungry Years being closed, there is one rule to remember... if you go on a Saturday, go at 12.00 midday, or all of the beach cafes will be full (they fill up by around 1.00pm).

Also I suspect the roadworks in some of the main road areas may not be finished until July. It is not very picturesque if you are in a cafe, sipping wine beer or absinthe, staring at a green steel screen.

In general, Brighton is a fun place. There is skateboarding, canoeing, boat trips and all manner of watersports. One of my favourite haunts.

Indeed it does rock ^_^

The Hungry Years may be dead in the water but I can assure you there is a seedy little underbelly of alternative goodness still alive and kicking here. Go check out The Caroline of Brunswick [London Road area] and see what's going on clubwise at brighton-rock.net...if that doesn't make you want to pay a visit [in the name of science of course...] then maybe a few
of the shopping opportunities will tempt you.

Sounds good... I had not heard of The Caroline of Brunswick...

Oh and by the way, there are FAR better shops than Rag Freak in Brighton... shop there if you really like being ripped off for poor quality printed t-shirts, and Omen/predictable clothing... just disappear down the lanes and have a poke about and see what you find basically. Also, with Brighton being the weird little haven that it is, the Charity shops tend to see a lot of interesting and unusual clothing too so swing by a couple of them too.

Also Brighton's been known to put on a decent gig or two... ;o)

Yes I have seen some interesting clothing in the Lanes, also the North Laine area can be good. There are some amazing fetish clothes around and long lacy dresses with lace-up bodices. I also found some cool statues in a shop called Arkham. They also do weird stone framed mirrors with faces, dragons and snakes.

If we get some half-decent weather soon I will have to re-visit....
