A poem

If I Were To Die Today:

 

If I were to die today, who would remember me?

 

The ones I loved and cherished? The ones who knew and loved me for me?

 

Or those who spat and stomped on my dreams? But yet, I somehow managed to turn the other cheek.

 

If I were to die today, would I have been somebody's hero, a figure somewhere in history?

 

A statue instead of a headstone? Engraved on it not an epitaph, but a eulogy?

 

Will I have changed peoples lives? Or be the reason their tears and respect were denied?

 

If I were to die today, would I want my story to thrive?

Grain Of Sand

Within her breast
her heart withered and shrank,
until it grew small,
small enough to keep within an acorn shell.
Still none heeded her weeping.
None cared to ease her pain.
Time passed
and her heart shrank yet further,
becoming so small
it was no more than a grain of sand.
But they did not care to see,
would not share her grief.
Scorched by the burning winds of their indifference,
it withered further still
until the day came when,
if any had cracked the acorn shell
and peered within,
they would have found nothing.
Not even a grain of sand.
