Unloved

He lay there, swimming in a pool of his own blood,

A knife in one hand a note in the other,

The stereo on full blast,

He was alone that night and no one knew that he took his own life,

There was pain in his life,

Pain that you’d never even think of,

Pain that makes you cry,

Pain that makes even the toughest want to die,

He just couldn’t take it,

He’d had enough,

The lying, the beating, the pain

No one deserves the life he had,

That night he slit his throat

He ended all the pain,

At his sad, sad funeral, no one even came,

Now you know why he wanted to die,

His life was worse than death….

Hi Spaz.... Your poem raises some strong issues about suicidal depressive people. I have suffered from depression (on and off) all my life, and feel that all depressives should be taken more seriously. They need someone professional to actually listen to all their problems and help them to think in a more positive way, and to change their lives for the better.

I've heard that in hospital, some doctors and nurses are very unsympathetic with people who have taken overdoses, etc., because they feel it uses up valuable time which could be spent on patients who want to live. In a way I can understand that. But all depressives of all ages deserve much more sympathy and help with improving their lives. Even a hug is a start. Things like Prozac and ECT (Electro Convulsive Therapy) are not always the answer. Depressives should never be left alone with their spiralling negative thoughts, which can destroy them, through self-destruction. And failed suicides can result in broken bones, strokes, paralysis... any number of frightening disabilities.

I wish the world would wake up to the needs of those in suicidal despair, whatever the problems that started it, big or small.

Thanks for sharing this poem.
